Above the entrance to one of the classrooms are the names of Irene and her husband Jos. It is a tribute to the super volunteer from Baarn who is now visiting The Gambia for the fourth time. “When I first came to this place there was nothing, this was a jungle with trees,” she says. “Now there is a beautiful school with two buildings, a kitchen and a canteen where the children can eat, a well, solar panels, a toilet block and a wall around the site.”
