In Azerbaijan, the elections were brought forward by two months so as not to interfere with Baku’s organization of COP29, the major UN climate summit. This is a paradox for a country whose economy remains largely focused on fossil fuels. This position allows it, despite the conflict with Armenia, to maintain good relations with Western Europe and its Russian neighbor.
