Ax-wielding man shot by police after car chase

Several police patrols were alerted at 5 pm to an address in southern Gotland where a man, who was in a residence, threatened to seriously injure both himself and other people. The police negotiator had phone contact with the man for over half an hour, but despite this he chose to flee the scene in a car. But the police managed to stop the car in the immediate area with the help of a nail mat. – Based on what he said, we did not want to bring him into a densely populated area, says police spokesperson Daniel Wikdahl to TV4 Nyheterna. When neither pepper spray nor stun guns helped, the police chose to shoot the man in the leg, the police write on their website. – I can’t answer why we didn’t manage to get control of the man with pepper spray and stun guns, says Daniel Wikdahl. The gunman was able to be treated at the scene and has been taken to hospital by ambulance helicopter.
