Awak Kuier led Venezia to victory the Finnish star

Awak Kuier played a big role when Reyer Venezia started the third championship hunt in their club history excellently in Italy.

Awak Kuier, 22, also started the Italian women’s basketball finals strongly, as Reyer Venezia, which he represented, beat the experienced and successful Famila Schio 77–65 (29-32) in the first final game. Three mounts are required for the championship.

In the first final, Kuier scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds while playing the most of his team – about 35 minutes. In the two-part semi-final series, Suomalaištahti was already the best scorer of her team and the queen of playing time.

Famila Schio, who had won the previous season’s clashes with 2–1 victories and, among other things, the cup trophy in front of Venezia’s nose, started stronger than the teams, leading in the first period with ten points at best and three at the break.

In the third period, Kuier took his team to a 42–37 lead and crowned the home team’s good streak with a 9–0 run. After that, Venezia never gave up its leadership position.

Venezia’s other key players were Lisa Bergani 15/2, Matilde Villa 15/3/5s, Francesca Pan 12/2 and Jessica Shepard 12/23/4p. Schion Robyn Parks and Costanza Verona scored 12 points on the woman.

This year, Reyer Venezia won the regular season of Serie A with a basket and advanced to the semi-finals of the Eurocup (the second highest level for women).

During its history, Venezia has won the championship twice. The last championship came in the spring of 2021. In recent history, these are the team’s third finals (2008–09 and 2020–21).

Famila Schio played in the first category Euroleague, where it reached the top four. Schio has won eight of the ten previous championships and was in the Italian finals for the 14th time in a row.
