Avio, Vega successfully brings Sentinel-2C into orbit

ESA Vega Launcher Marketing Passes from Arianespace to Avio

(Telestock) – Vega successfully launched the European satellite for Earth observation Sentinel-2Cwithin the framework of the programme Copernicus of the European Commission. The satellite was released into a sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of approximately 775 kilometers.

The satellite is able to obtain high resolution multispectral images for numerous applications including agriculture, water quality monitoring, natural disaster management (such as fires, volcanic eruptions and floods) and methane emissions detection.

This was the twenty-second and final launch of Vega. The launcher had already placed the first two satellites of the Sentinel-2 series into orbit: Sentinel-2A in 2015 with flight VV05 and Sentinel-2B in 2017 with flight VV09.

“We are proud of the work done over the years by our entire team with this launcher in support of the European Copernicus programme”, said Julius RanzoCEO of Avio, adding “this is also an important milestone for Avio, as this was the last flight of Vega. The launcher’s legacy will continue with Vega C and the future Vega E”.
