Avian flu also plagues the Murmansk region

Bird flu is raging in the Barents region across the borders, also further east in the Murmansk region in Russia.

On the shores of the Barents Sea at the mouth of Uurajoki and on the beach near the Norwegian border, masses of birds dead from bird flu have been seen, mostly gray gulls at the beginning of July. And now in the middle of July also further east, in the village of Teriberka, about 120 kilometers east of Murmansk.

The Murmansk regional administration is considering a quarantine for the areas of Uura and Teriberka villages, it is reported in Murmansk media. The quarantine would apply to a distance of five kilometers from the danger area and the beach.

Quarantine means that neither people nor pets are allowed to enter the danger zone, it is said in the Murmansk media by order of the authorities. Dogs and cats often roam free in the Murmansk region, especially in small villages.

In addition, the local authorities require chicken farms in the area to take special care and keep their own birds in closed premises. The authorities remind you not to touch dead birds.

In the village of Teriberka on the shores of the Barents Sea, there was a big cultural festival just this weekend, in which you participated according to media reports, about 15,000 people.

It is possible that the festival guests have encountered birds that died of bird flu in Teriberka.
