Avatar won’t be (!) a trilogy and Disney is 250 million dollars poorer

Avatar wont be a trilogy and Disney is 250

After a long wait, Avatar 2: The Way of Water will be released in cinemas this December. Director James Cameron got the green light for even 4 sequels many years ago. A lot of water has flowed down the river since then. Avatar studio 20th Century Fox changed hands and is now owned by Disney.

Well then: Avatar 4 is being filmed right now

Avatar 2 and 3 are coming. The films were shot in parallel and are said to be almost complete. But whether Disney would really fund a total of 4 expensive Avatar movies, no longer seemed so sure. Even the performers no longer knew the exact plan. At the D23, it was officially announced on the 21st Century panel: Filming on Avatar 4 has begun. And that costs a lot of money.

Avatar 4 costs a fortune again

Avatar movies are expensive, very expensive. The state-of-the-art trick technology costs money. $1 billion director James Cameron is available for the 4 films. That’s 250 million for everyone, but of course it’s unclear whether that’s how it’s distributed. Either way, Disney is taking a big risk by signing off on Avatar. Three sequels for a franchise whose last and first film came out 13 years ago: tricky.

Or, to put it more optimistically: Disney trusts in the radiance of Avatar and the genius of James Cameron. After all, Avatar 1 continues to be the highest grossing film in history and that was no coincidence. By the way, it is not certain whether James Cameron will direct Avatar 4 himself.

When do Avatar 2 to 5 start?
