With the arrival of Avatar 2: The Way of the Water in the cinema soon, we could expect movement on the side of Ubisoft for the game Frontiers of Pandora. There have been, but unfortunately not in a good way.
[Mis à jour le 22 juillet 2022 à 10h38] Avatar returns to the front of the stage, just over 13 years after its phenomenal success in our cinemas. Without becoming a pillar of pop culture, James Cameron’s film made an impression, so much so that its sequel, Avatar: The Way of the Water, arrives in cinemas in December. But that’s not all, we’ve known for a few years now that our compatriots at Ubisoft are working hard on an open-world on Pandora. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has been in the drawers for a few years, and may stay there for a while yet. The game’s development teams have announced that the game’s release period has been pushed back to the next fiscal year. Understand end of 2023 beginning of 2024. We explain everything to you.
What is the release date for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora?
It is therefore with bad news in its bag that Ubisoft expressed himself in front of its investors, claiming that the release of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora could not correspond with the arrival of the film Avatar: The Way of the Water in cinemas. A decision justified by the studio’s desire to provide a high quality game, complete and worthy of the expectations of fans (who have been chomping at the bit for just over twelve years all the same): “Our goal is to create a cutting-edge immersive experience that takes full advantage of next-gen technology. This formidable global entertainment brand represents a major multi-year opportunity for Ubisoft“. And these days, we can only salute the realism of the studio which prefers to take the time to refine its game rather than cruncher (understand forcing its employees to crazy hours before the game’s release) its teams and/or provide fans with work far from done (we’re looking at you, Battlefield 2042), so we’ll have to wait end of 2023 or beginning of 2024 to be able to dive joystick in hand in the forests of Pandora.

Avatar Frontiers of Pandora Gameplay
Originally announced in 2017 by the teams at Massive Entertainment, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a first-person open-world action-adventure game, arguably including none of the RPG elements (skill tree, levels, quests…). The game is in the triple A category and has a budget to match its ambition. Based on Ubisoft’s Snowdrop graphics engine, Avatar Frontiers of Pandora will feature high-quality graphics and will therefore be reserved for next-gen consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series), PC and Cloud Gaming only. Regarding its storyline, it will play as Navis trying to confront the destructive ambitions of the RDA (Resource Development Administration, the villains in the film) in the Western Lands. This is an unexplored region of Pandora, offering us unprecedented fauna and flora as well as breathtaking landscapes.
