Netflix is giving Avatar: The Last Airbender a second and third season – despite major criticism from the cartoon’s fan base. Even the first new character has already been confirmed.
What’s next for Netflix with Avatar? The streaming giant Netflix is giving Avatar: The Last Airbender two more seasons. The company’s official X.com account recently confirmed this:
What does this mean for the series? The first season of the live-action adaptation is based on the American animated series Avatar: Lord of the Elements. She adapts its first season, the so-called Book: Water.
The numbers 2 and 3 can now be seen in the Netflix account’s post, which are based on the official symbols of the elements in the Avatar world. The two is surrounded by a green earthbending symbol, while the three is accompanied by red flames of the fire symbol.
Netflix is probably indicating that in seasons two and three they will adapt the missing seasons of the cartoon – Book 2: Earth and Book 3: Fire.

Further details have not yet been announced. However, since the first season was based on the cartoon, it can be assumed that seasons two and three will also do the same. However, the live-action adaptation changed some story points, which of course continue to be changed and adapted accordingly.
How are the fans feeling about it? In fact, the first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender received a lot of criticism from fans because, among other things, the Netflix adaptation lacks the lightness of the original. The live-action version also dispenses with the plot line surrounding Zosin’s comet. In the original, Avatar Aang was given a tough deadline to stop the Fire Lord.
Even before the release, the news caused a stir that Netflix had removed Sokka’s sexism from the series. Sokka, the big brother of the waterbender Katara, is one of the three main characters. At the beginning he has a very conservative worldview, which means that he repeatedly finds himself in arguments with Katara, but also other women like Suki. However, over the course of the first season he gains respect and begins to change his worldview.
Unfortunately, community feedback rarely influences the decisions of large companies. In this case, the adaptation seems to have done everything right, at least for Netflix, so that the investment in further seasons is justified. Maybe the company will at least take some of the feedback to heart.
