James Cameron is not lacking in self-confidence. While Avatar 2: The Way of Water is finally coming to cinemas more than 10 years after the first part, the director already planned up to part 5.

Part 3 is said to have already been wrapped, while Avatar 2’s box office results will determine the future of the sci-fi series. Now producer Jon Landau has new details about the story of the planned fifth part reveal.

Avatar 5 is intended to illuminate new facets of the future earth

In an interview with Gizmodo, Landau talked about that Portions of the Avatar 5 story on Earth should play. So far, the sci-fi franchise has only revolved around the planet Pandora.

According to Landau, the fifth part should open the eyes of the audience and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) to what life on earth is about in the future. The multifacetedness in particular has remained unexplored until now, since the Humans are predominantly endowed with evil intentions in the eyes of the Na’vi are.

Whether we’ll see Avatar 5 at all in many years’ time depends first on the financial success of part 2. James Cameron himself said that Avatar 2 needs to be the third or fourth highest grossing film of all time to break even. From the December 14th you can contribute yourself, because then Avatar 2 will be shown in German cinemas.
