While Avatar: The Way of Water climbs to number 6 of the most successful films, the sequel directed by James Cameron can look forward to a special record. At yesterday’s announcement of the nominations for this year’s awards ceremony Visual Effects Society (VES), Avatar 2 is at the top of the list.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that the sci-fi blockbuster is a big favorite when it comes to visual effects. with 14 nominations nevertheless, very few observers in the industry expected it. No film has done that before. So the Oscar in this field should also be safe.

Avatar 2 received 14 nominations for Best Visual Effects from the Visual Effects Society

In the most important categoryOutstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature, four other major blockbusters from the past cinema year have been nominated alongside Avatar: The Way of Water: The Batman, Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World: A New Age and Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore.
