Avatar 2 is breaking record after record and James Cameron

Avatar 2: The Way of Water exceeded all expectations at the box office. As Variety reports, the sci-fi blockbuster is now the 7th highest-grossing film of all time. This is a terrific achievement for director James Cameron. But as he himself only now seems to realize, the result also has far-reaching consequences for him.

Avatar 3 and Sequels: Avatar 2’s success gives James Cameron no respite

Comicbook quotes the director from a conversation with Chris Wallace:

I can’t get out of there now. Now I have to do the sequels. We’ll be having a chat with Disney executives about the Avatar 3 plans soon. […] Avatar 4 and 5 are written, part of Avatar 4 has even been filmed. […] I think now we’ve probably started a franchise.

Cameron’s words sound almost a little surprised. After all, the unprecedented success of the Avatar sequel has almost set his life plan for the next six years. And should the sci-fi series be able to maintain its success up to Avatar 5, further sequels seem only a matter of time from a financial point of view.

When is Avatar 3 in cinemas?

However, it remains to be seen whether this forecast will come true. Avatar 3 is scheduled for December 18, 2024 come to the cinema, the remaining sequels will follow at intervals of two years until the end of 2028.
