Available on iOS for years on iOS, the weather finally arrives in the Android version of Google Maps. a practical function to better prepare your trips… and know how to dress with the local forecasts!
Google Maps continues to continually improve in order to maintain its hegemony in the mapping application sector. Navigation without connection, emojis to mark favorites, improvement of voice commands with Google Assistant, Street View, Immersive View… These last few months have been full of new features! This time, the Android application has a very practical weather function. An option that has been present for four years on the iOS application – it allows you to have an idea of the weather conditions of the place you are currently viewing on the map – even if the forecasts and information are less detailed. In fact, according to the channel Telegram Google News, the latest update for Android shows the weather and air quality in any region of the globe. Users will thus be able to know local forecasts directly on the mapping application. Enough to plan their trips according to climatic conditions, and avoid unpleasant surprises at a glance.
Google Maps: the weather arrives in the Android application
In this new version of the Android application, a new weather icon is located under the carousel which suggests suggestions for places of interest, such as restaurants, hotels and gas stations, indicating the general weather conditions (temperature, sun , overcast weather, showers, etc.). Tapping on it opens a new window showing the area’s current temperature, hourly weather forecast, and a link to view air quality data. According to the screenshots, the weather forecasts displayed by Google Maps come from Weather.com, whose data is already used by the company for other Android functions.
For the moment, we do not know when this new feature will be deployed on Android devices. To take advantage of it, it is better to update the application regularly. Note that this is not the first time that Google has sought to integrate the weather into its maps, but the result was not necessarily very readable. For example, the company added several years ago, through a widget, the weather superimposed on the maps.
