(Finance) – The September 21, 1924 represents a historic date for the country: the word “motorway”, to indicate those toll roads dedicated only to cars for the rapid transport of goods and people, with a mostly straight and obstacle-free route, thus projecting Italy from a rural to an industrial economy. This infrastructural and socioeconomic change was marked by the ribbon cutting in the presence of King Vittorio Emanuele III aboard his Lancia Trikappa of A8 Milan-Varesetoday managed by the Autostrade per l’Italia Groupand then a work strongly desired by the Milanese engineer, entrepreneur and builder, Peter Puricelli.

To celebrate the 100 candles of what today, thanks to a strengthening project by the Aspi Group, is the first 5-lane highway in the countryAutostrade per l’Italia is promoting various initiatives and commemorative events throughout the weekend.

To kick off the celebrationstomorrow, the ceremony in the service area Villoresi Westa symbolic place of the A8 motorway which will see the participation of the Vice President of the Council and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matthew Salviniof the President of the Lombardy Region Attilio Fountainby the CEO of Autostrade per l’Italia Roberto Tomasi. Speakers will include, among others, the President of the Automobile Club of Italy Angel Sticchi Damianithe CEO of Autogrill Maximilian Saint. In memory of the construction of the Milano Varese, ACI will donate two different totems, created by the artist Lorenzo Martinoli, to the Villoresi Ovest and Brughiera Est service areas.

On Sunday, vintage cars and motorcycles, strictly linked to the 1920s and 1930s and registered in the Milan-Varese race, will parade along theItalian Historic AutomotoclubThe event, promoted by ASI and sponsored by Autostrade per l’Italia, is scheduled to start from the headquarters of the Lombardy Region, in Piazza Città di Lombardia in Milan, in the direction of Varese, and then continue the journey to the Ville Ponti park in Varese.

The anniversary of the centenary will also be remembered throughout the network. During the weekend, in fact, on the variable message panels present along all the routes managed by Aspi, the message “1924-2024 one hundred years of motorways” will appear. While on the screens of the Infomoving circuit, present in over 200 service areas, a video will be broadcast that will retrace the history of the A8, with archive images from its construction up to the current 5-lane configuration.

The A8 Milan-Varese represents a strategic asset of the network and one of the main Lombardy motorway connections towards the North and constitutes a section of fundamental importance, since it allows the connection between the main routes of the Northern Italyboth for tourist and economic influx, with considerable traffic flows, both light and heavy, with an average of 120,000 vehicles per day that can reach peaks of 150,000.
