Automotive Industry Association It announced the data for the first quarter of 2024. In the first quarter of the year, production increased by 3 percent, exports increased by 1 percent, and the market grew by 24 percent.
The detailed statement made by the Automotive Industry Association on the subject was as follows: “Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD), which is the umbrella organization of the sector with its 13 members guiding the Turkish automotive industry, announced the production and export figures and market data for the first quarter of 2024. Accordingly, in the first quarter of the year, total automotive production increased by 3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 377 thousand 70 units. Automobile production increased by 7 percent to 238 thousand 274 units. Including tractor production, total production reached 390 thousand 925 units. In the first quarter of the year, commercial vehicle production decreased by 4 percent and 5 percent in the light commercial vehicle group compared to the same period of the previous year, while production in the heavy commercial vehicle group increased by 1 percent. During this period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 77 percent. Capacity utilization rates on a vehicle group basis were 77 percent in light vehicles (car + light commercial vehicle), 78 percent in the truck group, 64 percent in the bus-midibus group and 74 percent in the tractor.

In the first quarter of the year, automotive exports increased by 1 percent in terms of units compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 256 thousand 511 units. During this period, automobile exports decreased by 2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while commercial vehicle exports increased by 5 percent. Tractor exports decreased by 13 percent compared to the same period in 2023 and amounted to 4 thousand 562 units.
According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly, total automotive industry exports maintained its top place in the sectoral export rankings with 14 percent in the first quarter of 2024. According to Uludağ Exporters’ Associations (UIB) data, total automotive exports in the first three months increased by 5 percent compared to the same period of 2023, reaching 9.2 billion dollars. In euro terms, it increased by 3 percent to 8.5 billion euros. During this period, while main industry exports increased by 6 percent in dollar terms, supply industry exports increased by 3 percent.
In January-March 2024, the total market increased by 24 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 307 thousand 461 units. During this period, the automobile market reached 233 thousand 389 units with an increase of 33 percent. Looking at the commercial vehicle market, in the first three months of the year, compared to the same period of the previous year, there was a 2 percent growth in the total commercial vehicle market and a 3 percent growth in the light commercial vehicle market, while there was a 1 percent decrease in the heavy commercial vehicle market. “In January-March 2024, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales and light commercial vehicle market was 33 percent compared to the same period last year.”
