The Automotive Industry Association, which is at the center of the Turkish automobile industry, shared a post today and announced the data for the first 4 months of 2024.
The detailed statement made by the Automotive Industry Association on the subject was as follows: “The Automotive Industry Association (OSD), which is the umbrella organization of the sector with its 13 members guiding the Turkish automotive industry, announced the production and export figures and market data for the January-April period of 2024. According to the report, which showed that there was a decrease in production units on a monthly basis due to the effect of public holidays in April, total production in the sector in the first 4 months decreased by 1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 474 thousand 947 units. Automobile production increased by 2 percent to 300 thousand 109 units. Including tractor production, total production reached 492 thousand 471 units. In the first four months of the year, production in the commercial vehicle group decreased by 5 percent, in the heavy commercial vehicle group by 7 percent and in the light commercial vehicle group by 5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. During this period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 73 percent. Capacity utilization rates on a vehicle group basis were 74 percent in light vehicles (cars + light commercial vehicles), 83 percent in the truck group, 59 percent in the bus-midibus group and 70 percent in the tractor.

In the first four months of the year, automotive exports increased by 1 percent in terms of units compared to the same period last year, reaching 332 thousand 664 units. During this period, automobile exports remained parallel to the same period of the previous year, while commercial vehicle exports increased by 2 percent. Tractor exports decreased by 16 percent compared to the same period in 2023, reaching 5 thousand 777 units. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly, total automotive industry exports maintained its first place in the sectoral export rankings with 16.5 percent in the first four months of 2024. According to Uludağ Exporters’ Associations (UIB) data, total automotive exports in the first four months increased by 3 percent compared to the same period of 2023, reaching 11.9 billion dollars. In euro terms, it increased by 2 percent to 10.9 billion euros. During this period, main industry exports increased by 3.4 percent and supply industry exports increased by 2.6 percent in dollar terms.
In the first four months of 2024, the total market increased by 10 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 386 thousand 538 units. During this period, the automobile market also increased by 17 percent and reached 294 thousand 837 units. Looking at the commercial vehicle market, in the first four months of the year, there was a 6 percent decline in the total commercial vehicle market, an 8 percent decline in the heavy commercial vehicle market, and a 5 percent decline in the light commercial vehicle market compared to the same period of the previous year. “In the January-April period of 2024, compared to the same period last year, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales was 31 percent, and the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 33 percent.”
