Automotive, car production in Italy collapses in June

(Finance) – In June 2024, according to ISTAT data, theThe production of the Italian automotive industry as a whole recorded a 25% decrease compared to June 2023, while in the first half of 2024 it decreases by 16.3%.

Looking at the individual production sectors of the sector – explains ANFIA – the index of motor vehicle manufacturing (Ateco code 29.1) records a negative trend variation of 36% in June 2024 and decreased by 19.6% in the first six months of 2024 compared to the same period of 2023; that of the manufacture of bodies for motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (Ateco code 29.2) grew by 0.2% in the month and by 13.9% in the cumulative, while that of the manufacture of parts and accessories for motor vehicles and their engines decreased by 15.6% in June and by 18% in the period January-June 2024.

Amphia emphasizes that the sector automotive manufacturing it is placed in the context of an overall Italian industrial production still in decline in June 2024 compared to the levels of the sixth month of last year: the industrial production index as a whole closed, in fact, at -2.6% in June and at -3.2% in the first six months of the current year compared to the same period of 2023.

Industry turnover in the strict sense (excluding the Construction sector) recorded a negative variation of 4.7% in May 2024, the latest available data (-4.4% on the domestic market and -5.5% on foreign markets) and closed the first five months of the year at -2.6% (-3%
domestic market and -1.8% foreign markets).

Automotive sector turnover overall, it shows a 19.5% decrease in May (latest available data), due to a domestic component down 19.2% and a foreign component at -19.8%. In the first five months of 2024, turnover drops
instead of 6.8% (-12.1% domestic turnover and -1.5% foreign turnover).

In the end, parts and accessories turnover for motor vehicles and their engines shows a negative trend variation of 17.3% in May (-27.3% the domestic component and -3.6% the foreign component). In the period January-May 2024, the turnover index of this sector records a decrease of 7.2%, with a decrease of 14.2% of the domestic component and a growth of 1.6% of the foreign component.
