M, KD and SD wanted to abolish the Equality Authority. But last Saturday it became known that the government is giving the authority an extra SEK 72 million next year.
– Now we are strengthening the Equality Agency, and we are not doing that because we then have plans to close down the agency. In any case, the Liberals will fight to prevent that from happening, says Gender Equality Minister Paulina Brandberg (L) to Expressen.
Whether this means that the authority will remain until 2026 remains to be seen.
It was last year that the government announced that it was going on the hunt for authority with the Sweden Democrats as the driving party.
SD’s economic policy spokesperson Oscar Sjöstedt told TT that there are many authorities that can be shut down. When asked if it concerned the authority that is now receiving a million dollar supplement, he said:
– The Equality Authority is not the highest priority to keep, in my world.
