Author criticizes German cinema hit with over 8 million viewers

Niederkaltenkirchen is one of the most famous places in Germany, but it doesn’t even exist. The fictional community is the scene of the so-called Eberhofer thrillers by Rita Falk, whose cinema adaptations have become mega hits in this country since Dampfnudelblues. Falk is anything but satisfied with the implementation.

“I shed a lot of tears”: Eberhofer crime author criticizes the lack of loyalty to the template

Since 2013, a total of nine Eberhofer thrillers have been adapted for the cinema, which, according to ots, have had over 8 million viewers. The latest part Rehragout-Rendezvous has been in cinemas since August 10, 2023. Falk however, clearly distanced himself from the film in an interview with Der Spiegel:

I find the script unbelievably flat, trashy, sometimes even vulgar. I’m really sad and I’ve shed a lot of tears over the past few days. […] Not even the killers are the same. […] As a writer, I have to distance myself from this film.

The collaboration with the production company Constantin has worked well for years, says Falk. Sometime but her comments were more and more ignored:It was always said: film is film and book is book“, reports the author. She is skeptical whether further adaptations should be produced by Constantin.
