Australian television record during the World Cup semi-final

A total of 11.5 million Australians at some point during the match followed the broadcast of the meeting in Sydney between the Matildas of Australia and the Lionesses of England. An average of 7.13 million people watched the match – on TV or streaming. However, those who saw the broadcast in public places, such as pubs and sports arenas, are not counted.

Australia has a population of about 25 million.

The match was broadcast on free-to-air Channel Seven, which also says it set a streaming record.

— The Matildas have rewritten the history books, says Channel Seven’s head of sport Lewis Martin.

Already on Saturday, the Australians will again have the opportunity to see their national team on television when the Matildas meet Sweden to settle for third place in the World Cup.
