OPEN AUSTRALIA. Led two sets to zero with a match point against him, the Russian Daniil Medvedev qualified for the semi-final of the Australian Open.
An anthology match for Medvedev! The Russian, world number 2 and favorite of this Australian Open did not go far from elimination against the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime. The seeded n°9 led the proceedings for a very long part of the meeting by leading two sets to nil (7-6, 6-3) before conceding the third set in the tie-break 7-6. In the fourth set, the Canadian could have concluded, but Medvedev saved the match point to finally break the next game and win the 4th set a few seconds later.
In the other results of the day, Stefanos Tsitsipas hurt the Italian Sinner who will therefore not find his compatriot Berrettini in the last four. We will therefore be entitled to an explosive semi-final between Tsitsipas and Medvedev this Friday. In women, end of course for Alizée Cornet, beaten by the American Collins.
The women are on the program this Thursday, January 27 with Australian Barty who will face Keys while Collins will play against Swiatek. On the other hand, a short break for the men since the semi-finals will be scheduled for this Friday, January 28. On the menu of this last square, Nadal – Berrettini / Tsitsipas – Medvedev.
