Australia is rearming its military and expanding its fleet from eleven warships to 26, the country’s government has announced.

Cost: 11 billion Australian dollars, corresponding to over 75 billion kroner over ten years.

– It is the largest fleet that we will have since the end of the Second World War, says Minister of Defense Richard Marles at a press conference.

Six new Hunter-class frigates are to be built in Adelaide in South Australia, with a first delivery by 2034. A further eleven smaller frigates, of an entirely new class, are being ordered from overseas.

In addition, six modern combat ships that do not need to be manned, developed in cooperation with the United States, are being acquired.

Part of the fleet will also be equipped with cruise robots of the Tomahawk type.
