The Australian government announced on 23 August 2024 a new initiative to protect the Great Barrier Reef, the world’s largest coral reef and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The new measure includes $130 million in aid to improve water quality, which is severely impacted by pesticide discharges from coastal farming.
