Auston Matthews reached 50 goals in the cross country. It took the American only 54 matches.

Austin Matthews made history in the night round of the ice hockey league NHL. Matthews scored his 50th goal of the season as he led Toronto to a 2–0 lead against Arizona.

Matthews became the fastest American forward to reach the 50-goal mark in NHL history. The feat took Matthews just 54 games. The last time he reached 50 goals this quickly was in 1995–1996 by Mario Lemieux with force.

Matthews is also the fastest player to reach 50 goals. Last season Connor McDavid scored 50 goals in 61 games.

Matthews is on pace for 75 goals this season. Breaking 70 goals is rare in the NHL. This has been accomplished only 13 times in NHL history. The last time this was done was in the season 1992–1993, when Alexander Mogilny also played his rookie season Teemu Selänne scored no less than 76 goals. Selänte’s quote is still the goal record for NHL rookies in one season.

In the Arizona match, Matthws managed to score for the second time at the end of the second period. The hit was really special, because the puck bounced off Matthews’ chest and into the goal.

The match between Toronto and Arizona is over. There was also one Finnish goal in the match, when Matias Maccelli scored the tying goal for Arizona. Follow the NHL round here.

Luukkonen shone with Buffalo’s goal

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen shined with Buffalo’s goal against Montreal. Buffalo beat Montreal 3–2. Luukkonen made 29 saves. Especially in the final set, Luukkonen took one really impressive stand. Buffalo coach Don Granato incensed his Finnish goalkeeper heavily after the game.

– Upi was at the top of the game. He had to make many nice saves. Montreal had a few good situations. So you have to have good goalkeeper performances to be able to do that, Granato said.

Captain of Montreal Nick Suzuki also loved Luukko.

– Their goalkeeper made a couple of big saves during the game. He should be given some credit. Of course, we failed in some situations. We need to execute our game a little better, Suzuki said.

For the Buffalo quarterback Henri Jokiharju one assist point was also recorded in the match.

The story will be updated.
