Audience party in the castle ruins in Västervik – that was the Visfestivalen’s first concert night

The first of Visfestivalen’s three concert nights took place on Thursday. At the front of the queue was Jessica Franzén from Eksjö, who is visiting the festival for the 36th time. She had been queuing since lunchtime.

– I always want to be the first in, says Jessica Franzén.

What is so special about the Visfestivalen?

– It’s all wonderful music!

Another regular visitor to the Visfestivalen is Björn Ulvaeus, who has performed several times on the stage of the castle ruins.

– When I think of the Music Festival, I think of my friend Hansi Schwartz, who was still a music festival until his death, and of all the times I myself have stood on this stage, says Björn Ulvaeus.

“Would have been proud”

Hansi Schwartz, bandmate of Björn Ulvaeus in the Hootenanny Singers, passed away in 2013 and this year marks the tenth year the festival has been organized without Hansi Schwartz at the helm.

– He would have been proud as a rooster if he could have seen what the festival looks like today, says Björn Ulvaeus.
