The supermarket chain will soon begin dismantling loyalty cards. Be careful not to lose money.
It’s a reflex that many French people have, without really paying particular attention to it. And yet, it is not trivial. At the supermarket, when going to the checkout to pay for their shopping, most customers don’t just take out their bank card. Just before, another small piece of plastic is presented: the loyalty card.
Scanning it allows you to accumulate points to obtain gifts but also to credit a prize pool that can be used later. Each brand has its own: Leclerc, Carrefour, Auchan, Monoprix… They all offer it, with various advantages.
By filling the cart, the bank account is not only emptying. The customer account opened with the brand is growing. This is particularly the case at Auchan, with the “Compte Waaoh!” system. Here, it is not a percentage of the receipt that is credited to the loyalty account, but only a portion of certain products, reported in store.
On these, a notice “10% jackpots” or “€10 jackpots” is for example affixed, even when purchasing online. By purchasing them, this allows you to build up a kitty that can be used at any time to reduce your final checkout bill. But be careful not to delay.
Indeed, Auchan will soon empty the loyalty cards of all its customers. The euros accumulated on the “Waaoh!” account between the 1er January and October 31, 2024 must be used before January 31, 2025. Otherwise, they will disappear and “the card holder will automatically lose the benefit,” warns the brand.
By logging into your personal space on the Auchan website, you can find out how much of the prize pool remains to be spent. If the account is still credited and you wish to use the money before the deadline, it is possible to balance the pot in one or more installments for any purchase in the store, except for fuel, ticketing, photos, press/bookstore, travel, telephone cards, gift cards or even gift boxes.
If Auchan does not communicate on the number of customers who have a loyalty card or on the average amounts raised, it is strongly recommended to check your account so as not to see the money disappear.
