It has been demonstrated by previous studies that gum problems cause many other diseases. According to the CDC research conducted in the USA, if tooth decay and gum problems are neglected, they start to become dangerous especially for the brain.
THE RISK OF ALZHEIMER IS RISING IF GINGUAL DISEASES IS NEGLECTED!
According to studies conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the USA, approximately 47.2% of adults over the age of 30 and 70% of individuals over the age of 65 have gum disease. Gum disease, also known as periodontitis and periodontal disease, is known to occur through a bacterial infection in the soft tissues of the mouth. Previous studies have revealed that there is a relationship between gum disease and diseases such as diabetes and kidney disease.
THE CONNECTION BETWEEN TWO DISEASES FOUND
Finally, it was put there that there is a relationship between gum problems and Alzheimer’s. A research team working at Tufts University found a correlation between the bacterium Fusobacterium nucleatum (F. nucleatum) and Alzheimer’s disease in an experiment on mice. It is known that the bacteria in question is found in people with gum problems.
“PRODUCES BOTH LOCAL AND SYSTEMIC INFLAMMATION”
D., head of the Department of Oral Biology at Tufts University’s School of Dentistry and professor of periodontology and lead author of the study. Jake Jinkun Chen described the link between the two diseases in these words:
“Gum disorders produce inflammation both locally and systemically, which will affect the Alzheimer’s disease phenotype because Alzheimer’s itself is an inflammatory disease.”
FINDINGS MAY BENEFIT FOR TREATMENT
After research, scientists also believe that the new findings may help reduce the progression of both periodontal disease and this Alzheimer’s.
