prof. Dr. Levent Öztürk stated that healthy sleep is one of the cornerstones of a strong immune system.
Stating that the positive effect of quality sleep on the body was clearly revealed during the epidemic period, Öztürk emphasized that patients should pay maximum attention to their sleep patterns during the Covid-19 treatment process.
AFFECTS THE IMMUNE SYSTEM DIRECTLY
Stating that regular and healthy sleep directly affects the strength of the immune system, Öztürk said:
“In a research I conducted, I showed that some white blood cell groups, which we call lymphocytes, decrease in number in a person who is deprived of sleep for 2 days. These cells are the cells we call natural killers and are very important in combating viral diseases in particular. Kovid-19 is a viral disease. “We cannot fight and fight. This situation may cause the disease to worsen. It may cause people who are not sick to become ill as well. However, a strong sleep health and, on top of that, our vaccinations can protect us from getting sick.”
Öztürk pointed out that individuals diagnosed with Covid-19 should spend their isolation and quarantine processes by resting and sleeping soundly.
Stating that patients should avoid activities that will tire them out and using the phone and computer for a long time, Öztürk said, “The person should rest and not compromise his sleep, especially at night. If he manages to sleep well, his recovery from this disease will be faster.” he said.
