According to the news of MacRumors, Google announced that it has updated its inactive account policy and announced that Google accounts that have not been used or signed in for at least two years can be deleted. So if you haven’t used or signed in to your Google account for at least two years, your Google account and content are likely to be deleted.
This includes content from Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive, Google Meet, Calendar, YouTube and Google Photos.
However, the policy only applies to personal Google accounts. It will not affect the accounts of organizations such as schools or businesses.
WHEN WILL GOOGLE START DELETING SUCH ACCOUNTS?
While the policy goes into effect, it will not immediately affect users with inactive accounts.
Google will begin deleting these accounts in December 2023 at the earliest.
A phased approach will be followed, starting with accounts that are created and never used again.
Before deleting an account, Google will send multiple notifications to both the account’s email address and the recovery email (if provided) over the months prior to deletion.
HOW CAN YOU KEEP YOUR ACCOUNT ACTIVE?
Google recommends signing in at least every two years to keep a Google Account active and states that anyone who has recently signed in to an account or Google service will have their account considered active and will not be deleted.
Activities count as reading or sending an email, using Google Drive, watching a YouTube video, downloading an app from Google Play, using Google Search, having an active subscription through a Google Account, or Signing in with Google.
