Many people die every year due to heart diseases. Some factors cause heart diseases to be triggered. The increase in air temperature is among these reasons. Heart and blood pressure patients need to take more precautions in hot weather. Warning for citizens with heart disease, Cardiology Specialist Dr. İsmail Balaban, “Especially if cardiovascular patients stay in hot weather for a long time, the risk of heart attack may increase with increased pulse and blood pressure drop. They should not be outside during the hours when the sun is too high,” he said.
BE CAREFUL OF THE AMOUNT OF WATER YOU DRINK
With the arrival of summer months, rising temperatures negatively affect citizens with chronic diseases. Stating that citizens with diseases such as hypertension and heart failure should consume at least 2 and a half liters of water daily in hot weather and go out in cool weather, Cardiology Specialist Uz. Dr. İsmail Babalan made important recommendations for citizens with chronic illness.
EXCESSIVE SWEATING CAN CAUSE RENAL FAILURE
Cardiology Specialist. Dr. İsmail Balaban said, “In summer and in hot weather, our body sends more blood to our skin to balance our body temperature at these increasing temperatures, and it does this by lowering body temperature through sweating. The blood vessels in the skin expand and more blood is pumped into the skin. As a result, blood pressure drops slightly and heart rate rises. This creates a load on the heart. While the heart of normal healthy people can meet this load, especially in heart failure and cardiovascular patients, this load may not be met and may cause negative results. Especially in cardiovascular patients, if this situation lasts for a long time, if you stay too long in hot weather, the risk of heart attack may increase with the increased pulse and blood pressure drop. Internal organ functions may be impaired in patients with heart failure. Especially with excessive sweating from the skin, kidney failure may develop due to water and mineral loss. Along with the decrease in excessive blood flow to the kidneys, some hormones released from the kidneys may cause the same processes in blood pressure. As a result, sudden increases and sudden decreases in blood pressure may occur in patients with hypertension.
DO NOT GO OUT WHEN THE SUN IS HIGH
Continuing his speech, Uz. Dr. Balaban said, “Heart patients should continue their medications regularly during the summer months and should never stop taking any medication without consulting their doctor. Water consumption is very important, at least 2 and a half liters of water should be consumed in summer. Patients with heart failure and kidney failure should consult their doctor about how much fluid they should consume. Apart from this, they should not be outside during the hours when the heat is at its most intense and when the sun is high. They should avoid strenuous physical activities. They should do their daily routine exercises in cool weather. Apart from this, blood pressure patients, especially those using hypertension medication, should pay attention to blood pressure monitoring in the summer months. If there are irregularities such as a sudden decrease or increase in blood pressure, it is necessary to consult a doctor for medication change or medication regulation.
