He wants to see everyone before making decisions. Gabriel Attal begins, Monday April 29, with Insoumise Mathilde Panot his consultations with political groups around his proposals intended to stem the violence of part of the youth, after a new fatal fight involving a minor.

The Prime Minister will receive the leader of the deputies of La France insoumise and the coordinator of LFI Manuel Bompard at 5:30 p.m., according to Matignon’s agenda. The interview will focus “in particular (on) the responses to be made in terms of prevention and management of juvenile delinquency”.

He will also meet at 7:00 p.m. with the representatives of the majority: the leader of the Renaissance senators François Patriat, that of the Renaissance deputies Sylvain Maillard, the president of the Horizons group in the Assembly, Laurent Marcangeli, and the deputy Erwan Balanant for the MoDem group.

A death in Châteauroux

These meetings take place after the death on Saturday evening of a 15-year-old minor in Châteauroux (Indre) in a fight with knives, and several recent incidents of violence between young people which have strongly marked public opinion, such as the move to fatal tobacco in Viry-Châtillon (Essonne) of Shemseddine, 15 years old, near his college.

The alleged perpetrator of the acts in Châteauroux, also aged 15, was arrested and must be brought before justice on Monday. The fact that he is of “Afghan origin” according to a source close to the investigation has led several figures from the right and the far right to denounce the government’s “migratory policy”. A recurring criticism from this side of the chessboard in the European campaign, for which the Macronist majority finds itself largely left behind by the National Rally.

“The Prison and the Plane”

“It’s a new drama linked to our migration policy,” said on the MEP’s agenda. “No tolerance, it’s prison and the plane!”, echoed the president of the Republicans Éric Ciotti, still on senators LR Bruno Retailleau.

Gabriel Attal had already received the President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, on Friday on the same theme, after having lunch on Tuesday with mayors of cities hit by the riots in the summer of 2023 which had involved very young people.

From Viry-Châtillon, the head of government announced on April 19 a series of measures to deal with the “addiction to violence” of certain young people. In particular, he had wanted disruptive students to be “sanctioned” in obtaining their school diplomas, making the erasure of this mention conditional on “carrying out activities of general interest and, of course, keeping oneself in line” .

On the judicial side, he said he was ready to open the debate on “mitigations of the minority excuse” in criminal convictions and on the possibility of “establishing an immediate appearance before the court for young people from 16 years old.” He also insisted on parental responsibility. These consultations must be the subject of a progress update in four weeks and a conclusion in two months.

Gabriel Attal also went to Nice last Monday, illustrating the “prevention” aspect of his project by visiting an experimental educational boarding school.
