The hunter and his teenage son were participating in the licensed bear hunt in Ljusdal municipality on Monday morning when they were suddenly attacked by a bear. Now the man, who is still being treated in hospital in Umeå, tells about the incident that almost cost him his life.
– The bear came towards us and we actually had a chance to shoot, but then the dogs were in the way. Then the female bear suddenly caught sight of me and went straight on the attack and stabbed me in the face, the hunter tells SVT Gävleborg.
The female bear had a frame on one side of her head and the other on the man’s thigh when the son screams “no” and flies at the bear with punches and kicks.
For Expressen, the 14-year-old son tells us that the course of events goes quickly and that he only remembers that he runs forward and hits the bear with a right hand.
– Then it bites my hand and pulls it.
On Tuesday, both father and son are doing well according to the circumstances. The son had surgery on his broken wrist and he also injured his little finger. The boy’s quick intervention is believed to have saved the father’s life.
