Fire was opened at a passenger bus in Chilas city of Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan province. After the attack, the passenger bus went out of control and collided with the truck, and the truck caught fire due to the impact of the collision. 8 people died and 26 people were injured in the accident.
Authorities announced that 2 Pakistani soldiers lost their lives and a personnel from the Special Protection Unit was injured in the “cowardly action”.
Diamer Police Chief Sardar Shehryar stated that the police arrived at the scene and transferred the dead and injured to the hospital, and that the driver of the burning truck also lost his life.
Gilgit-Baltistan Interior Minister Shams Lone described the attack on the bus as a “terrorist attack” and promised that the attackers would be brought to justice.
While no one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, it is known that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has increased its terrorist activities, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, after the ceasefire with the Pakistani government ended last year.
