A press release from the South African army published this Wednesday confirmed the attack on the Saké base, located west of the city of Goma. During this incident, South African soldiers died and 20 others were injured. The South African army says nothing about the perpetrators of this attack. Which is considered the last barrier to reach the life of Goma.

The Congolese army supported by the forces of soldiers from the Southern African Development Community force deployed in DRC (Sami-DRC) faces rebels from the M23 supported by Rwanda who occupy strategic positions on the heights of Saké.

On Tuesday, detonations of heavy weapons were expected by local residents. Since the arrival in December 2023 of troops from the Southern African Development Community, at least five soldiers from this force have been killed and thirteen injured in fighting which took place against the M23 rebels.
