Athletics: Track and field athlete Oskar Edlund was convicted of drug offenses – now he will run in the Olympics

It was in December last year that Edlund was sentenced to a day’s fine for minor drug offenses after a night out in Stockholm where he was caught with cocaine in his blood.

– I was extremely devastated, incredibly sad and depressed. I was incredibly embarrassed afterwards. Mainly towards my closest circle, but also those who look up to me as a role model, he says about the incident.

Bergqvist: Very serious

The incident is nothing that neither the confederation nor the Swedish Olympic Committee knew about until recently.

– When I received the sentence, it was the worst period of my life, I would say. I was incredibly ashamed, so the people I informed then were my parents and my best friends, says Edlund.

– We take this very seriously. As an elite athlete, it is important to understand that you are a role model and here he has failed. Oskar is very remorseful and my task now is to take care of him both as an athlete and as a person, says the national athletics captain Kajsa Bergqvist to Expressen.

SOK tells Expressen that Edlund will not be punished in any way.
