The mayor of Bilbao has also spoken about the Athletic elections. Like a good politician Aburto bets on consensus. “The first question is that the candidates, it seems that there are going to be several, are aware that Athletic’s social mass cannot be divided. I often say that since Pedro Aurtenetxe ceased to be president, the social mass of Athletic is divided”, indicates the first mayor of Bilbao in Cope Bilbao.
The mayor went further in his explanations in this regard: “I believe that we need consensus and I ask the candidates, therefore, consensus and from then on, may the person with the most support win. I always, always say the same thing. As mayor of Bilbao, what he conveyed is that I will have an exceptional relationship with the president of Athletic, whoever he may be, because I think it is very important that two institutions such as the City Council and Athletic have a fluid relationship”.
Ricardo Barkala, president of the Port of Bilbao and party colleague, has been the one who has taken the first step by publicly announcing his intention to stand for the red and white elections. “Ricardo is a friend, he is part of my gang, and I value him in that sense as a friend,” says Aburto.
