The old record of 3.53.83 was set by Kalle Berglund in 2019.
Before the race, the former orienteer Samuel Pihlström was in fifth place but managed to get all the way to the front in close quarters and win the race.
– I’ve been a little sick after the Olympics, so the real top form is a bit gone, but the last hundred went well there. Nice to take the Canadian and the American who have done 3.50 in a mile.
Next up is the Finnkampen, where Pihlström plans to defend his two wins from last year. And the dreams stretch even further.
– In the long term, I want to become the first Swedish runner under 3.30 in the 1500 and take the Swedish record from Almgren. And I want to be involved and fight for advanced placements.
