Athletics Swede Andreas Almgren breaks the European 10km record

The Swede Andreas Almgren broke the European 10km road record this Sunday January 12 in Valencia, erasing the Frenchman Étienne Daguinos from the shelves and becoming the first European to go under 27 minutes (26’53) over the distance. In the streets of the “Ciudad del Running”, renowned for its ultra-fast races, the scene of numerous world records, Almgren won the race just ahead of the Swiss Dominic Lobalu (26’54), who also beat the old record continental. Since last November, the European 10km road record has been held by Étienne Daguinos, who ran in 27’04 in Lille. Before him, it was another Frenchman, Jimmy Gressier, who held the best European mark (27’07 in March 2024). Fourth in the 10,000m at the European Championships in Rome last year, Almgren had to withdraw from the Olympics due to a shin injury.
