According to NRK, Jaeger had a time of around 22.70 in the race which took place at lunchtime, but the timing did not work for the organizer Malmö AI. It was clearly under the Norwegian record held by Line Kloster of 23.03.
– There are no times. There is complete chaos here, said Morten Olsen, press manager for the Norwegian Athletics Federation, to NRK.
After upset feelings, it was decided that the race would be redone a couple of hours later.
Only three runners made it to the start and after being challenged by Finland’s Aino Pulkkinen, Jaeger pulled away as in the first invalid race. The clock stopped at 22.58 in a perfect tailwind, +1.8 meters per second, one hundredth from the Olympic qualification limit.
The newly crowned Nordic champion Jaeger jumped and cheered and had hugs with rushing teammates. Jaeger has been under 23 seconds indoors but had 23.28 as a personal best outdoors before today’s crash.
