Athletics: New Swedish record by Henrik Larsson in 100 meters in Austria

Henrik Larsson was already the holder of the Swedish record for 100 meters. Before today’s competition, the record time was 10.13, a record he set last year.

But during Sunday’s competition, the Mandl Memorial, in Graz, Austria, Larsson polished off his own record.

In the trials he ran 10.17 and in the final he hit 10.08.

Approaching the Olympic qualification limit

The Olympic qualifying limit for 100 meters is 9.99. But he can also get in via the ranking or SOK’s nomination time, which is 10.00.

He can also get to Paris by running several races in the 10.00-10.12 span, this reports The radio sport.

– It felt good, I had 10.17 in the trials where for some reason I didn’t push all the way to the finish even though I got a better start than in the final. In the final I focused on pushing all the way to the finish line and then it was 10.08, says Henrik Larsson, who was surprised that it went so quickly, says Larsson to Swedish athletics and continues:

– I had a very good training camp in Portugal, but after we got home, the body felt a little off. It’s actually only today that I’ve pressed so it was a bit unexpected that it went so quickly. Now there will be the Nordic Championships next weekend and then the Bauhaus Gala before the EC in Rome.

Edlund fourth best of all time

Larsson won the competition in Austria. Closest ahead of Coby Hilton (10.15) from the USA and Romel Glave (10.19) from Great Britain.

It also went well for Oskar Edlund, who set a new personal record in the 400 meter hurdles in Texas last night. His time of 48.82 makes him the fourth fastest of all time in Sweden. Sven Nylander has the record of 47.98.
