Duplantis took its first major senior title with the European Championship gold in Berlin 2018 and has good memories with several great results from competitions in the city. The training has gone well and Duplantis feels harmonious for tonight’s competition.
– I have high expectations for myself. I have to be over six meters, otherwise I will not be satisfied. I think I will try on a new world record, 6.27, which I think is possible, says Duplantis.
He goes for periods of a strict diet and an entered life but also tries to do what normal 25-year-olds do.
– I party even if I don’t do it every weekend.
When did you last party?
– Two weeks ago maybe, says Duplantis.
And what does a party night look like? Do you drink so you get drunk or are you just there?
– I am as usual, type and feel a little “Loosey Goosey” (relaxed) you can say.
He is careful to emphasize that the party is carefully selected and that it should fit into the competition and training schedule. And it is important to do it now, in parallel with his career as the world’s best pole jumper.
– I don’t want to feel after my career that I have to party like a madman but it’s good to have that balance now.
Do you tell the coaches mom and dad and the team that you are going out and partying so that it gets into the training schedule?
– Haha, that was a fun question.
See Duplantis tell us about the parents’ reaction in the clip above.
