Athletics: Mismeasured throw by Roje Stona’s discus throw upsets: “Shouldn’t be like that”

See the throw in the player above.

It was in the second round that Olympic champion Roje Stona’s discus crashed to a mark that showed a leading 66.90. However, the official ran past the impact mark and put down the measuring stick and had the throw measured at 67.85.

– There is no question that it is wrong. He wouldn’t even be second then. I hope someone else sees that and files a protest, says SVT Sports expert Christian Olsson.

Stona led the competition on the mismeasured throw until Kristjan Ceh threw 68.61 in the very last throw. Even that throw looked mismeasured – Ceh was given a couple of decimetres by the officials.

Second and third should have switched places

– It must be possible to develop a system and I think that World Athletics themselves should put in a penny to overcome the problem, it shouldn’t have to be that way. It is still the highest level in athletics and everyone should get a result that they deserve.

Stona took second place – just 17 centimeters ahead of third Mykolas Alekna. They should have switched places if measured correctly.

Olsson has an immediate solution pending technical aids.

– Two people should look at the same impact mark so that you immediately get a second opinion.

In the women’s long jump, the Spaniard Fatima Diame got a clear overrun, five, six centimeters measured to a personal best of 6.79 and a “valid attempt” appeared in the graphics. A while later, however, the result was cancelled.
