During this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris, Maja Åskag missed the three-step final. In the qualifiers, the Olympic debutant jumped 13.79 the longest, which was not enough to advance.
– You know it’s four years until the next chance, it’s something you’ve prepared for for so long. You have three attempts, then it’s over. Everything goes so fast, she tells SVT Sport.
Åskag has had a difficult season behind him. The year began with her falling ill with glandular fever, which resulted in her missing the indoor WC.
– I have learned more this year than last year. Then it was like a bed of roses, I didn’t have a single bad competition. This year it has been a little tougher, she says.
The 21-year-old will compete in the long jump and triple jump in the Finnkampen, which takes place in Helsinki on August 30-31.
