Athletics: Jakob Ingebrigtsen sprinted home the gold in the 5,000 meters: “Fantastic to witness”

– It means a lot. I really enjoy running races, and that’s what I use as motivation. It’s great fun and extra fun when it goes your way, says Jakob Ingebrigtsen and pays tribute to older brother Henrik, who struggled with crystal disease, with which he ran laps of honor, states NRK.

Ingebrigtsen is second in the overall athletics ranking after Armand Duplantis.

– It has been 14 years since Henrik participated in an EC for the first time, and he is still in a final of 5,000 meters at the highest level in Europe. It’s absolutely fantastic to witness, says Jakob and pays tribute to the older brother who finished 25th in 13.52.71.

Last lap in 53 seconds

The super Norwegian went to the front just before the bell and pressed. The 23-year-old stretched out the final stretch to win in 13.20.10 after clocking 53.14 on the final lap. It was total control.

Further back in the 27-runner field, Emil Danielsson finished in twelfth place with 13.27.42.

– I am relatively satisfied. It was a war out there for the positions, says Danielsson, who is catching up after a difficult spring to SVT Sport.

Andreas Almgren saved himself and only runs 10,000 meters at the EC in Rome on the final day on Wednesday next week.
