Athletics: Daniel Ståhl misses out on a medal in the EC – finishes fourth in the final

After a qualification with a modest result, Daniel Ståhl had reloaded in search of the first EC gold of his career during the EC’s evening session, but the final had a snowy end.

Ståhl began the final tentatively, but then increased in both the second and third throws. 66.84 there meant that he was in third place for a long time, but then the Austrian Lukas Weisshaidinger struck with 67.70.

  • The Swedish protest against the banned shoes was rejected – no final place for Maja Åskag

  • “Just getting hungrier”

Ståhl tried to answer, but instead there were three consecutive invalid throws.

Thus, Ståhl had to settle for fourth place and can continue chasing the first European Championship gold of his career.

    – I just get hungry and am now hungrier than ever. The Olympics are in a month and a half. You just have to keep working, he says.

The gold went to Kristjan Ceh in 68.08 and the bronze to world record holder Mykolas Alekna in 67.48. This means that the 21-year-old will see himself beaten for the first time this year.
