Athletics: Armand Duplantis won the first Diamond League event of the season in China

Today, the new Diamond League season began, with a gala in Xiamen, China.

In the pole vault, it went exactly as most expected: With victory for Armand Duplantis.

“Really, really good!”

He cleared his first three jumps, 5.62, 5.82 and 6.00 on the first attempt.

– It’s really, really good! Above all, it’s fun to see that it doesn’t matter what time of year it is: He jumps six meters regardless, says SVT Sports expert Alhaji Jeng.

Going to jump on a world record

When Sam Kendricks ripped his third attempt from six meters, the Swedish victory was complete.

Then he requested the bar at the world record height of 6.24 – and cleared it on the first attempt by a good margin.

– It is absolutely incredible! I really didn’t think he would do that in the first race of the season. It is not on the map, says Alhaji Jeng.

– He plays over six meters, and then he does the same at 6.24!

The world record is Armand Duplanti’s eighth. The first came in February 2020, when he jumped 6.17.
