Athletics: Armand Duplantis after Olympic gold and world record: “Will party so damn much”

Armand Duplantis took a new Olympic gold tonight, and improved the world record.

When he arrived at the SVT Sports interview microphone almost two hours later, he was tired but happy.

  • Dramatic 5,000m decider: Faith Kipyegon was dishonored – but regained Olympic silver after appeal

  • Noah Lyles after the super tight 100 meters gold in the Olympics: “A roller coaster”

  • – It’s getting a little late and I just want to party with my family. But otherwise… What the hell to say? It’s the best feeling there is.

    “Sickest I’ve ever been”

Half an hour earlier, he had described the feeling in a little more detail to Max:

    – It’s the sickest thing I’ve ever been a part of. There were so many people and so much energy and so much noise when I ran on the approach, he said to Max, and continued:

    – So I just tried to breathe. It’s just pole vaulting. It’s still pole vaulting, it doesn’t matter if there are 80,000 here screaming my name. It gave a lot of energy, shit…

    “Will party so damn much”

Duplantis says that all of his best friends and closest family are in attendance, and that it means a lot to him to achieve this with them in attendance.

    – I’m going to party so damn much with them tonight, and it’s going to be crazy!” There is nothing that can beat it, it is the best out there. It’s family that matters and we’re going to party like hell.

To SVT Sport, he also sent a greeting home to Sweden.

    – I am very proud. I am happy that I could take the gold back to Sweden. I felt all the support tonight from the Swedish people, and it was sick.
