Large parts of Greece have once again been swept up in sand clouds that followed the winds from the Sahara desert in northern Africa. The yellow fog has settled over the capital Athens but also several other cities.
The clouds cause breathing problems and also limit visibility, both on land and at sea.
– It is one of the worst sand and dirt storms we have experienced from the Sahara since March 2018, says Kostas Lagouvardos, researcher at the Athens Observatory.
The sand winds have also plagued Greece earlier this spring, and then Switzerland and southern France were also affected.
