At the summer patrol in Lärsäter, young Ukrainians get a break from the war: “It’s like in a movie here”

Kataryna, Misja and Masja about the contrasts of the summer camp with life in Ukraine

After a three-day journey – with a seven-hour wait at the Polish-Ukrainian border – about 30 children from Ukraine came to Lärsätersgården outside Kolsva.

The war in Ukraine

  • 10 tons of beans and peas are sent from Öland – to help war victims in Ukraine

  • Ukrainian forces increasingly deeper in the Russian Kursk region

  • Here they and about 10 Ukrainian children who live in the area around Eskiltuna get a summer holiday with swimming, dancing, theatre, sports and excursions.

    Has fled war twice

The camp is organized by the Centrumkyrkan in Kungsör and the association Barnens ambassad, which conducts social work outside Kiev, among other things for the children who are now here.

    – Here we get to live normal lives for two weeks, says Kataryna Rustamova, who grew up in eastern Ukraine and twice, in 2014 and 2022, had to flee the war.

In the clips: Kataryna and siblings Misja and Masja talk about the feeling of being here and for a while being able to leave the worries and horrors of Ukraine.
