At the finish line after ten years – Adam has visited Sweden’s 2,017 urban areas

It has been a constant journey across Sweden to complete the project. Adam Gau had actually visited Repisvaara a few years ago on a trip up to the North Cape.

But then there wasn’t much more there than a few holiday homes and a restaurant where he ate lunch.

280 miles round trip

Since then, the area has grown explosively because Malmberget is being dismantled and moved to Gällivare due to the mine’s expansion.

When Repisvaara got the status of a built-up area, it was only for Adam Gau to travel back again – 140 miles one way from Falköping.

– Two new urban areas were added in the new measurements a few years ago. I had a good laugh to myself, one outside Ystad and then Repisvaara. So far south and so far north, he says.

Not sure if the list is made longer

The list of Swedish urban areas changes all the time and Adam Gau’s collection is only complete until Statistics Sweden’s next survey next year.

– There will certainly be a few more places and then I’ll see what I’m doing, he says.

In the clip, we meet Adam Gau when he reaches his final station – and we take a closer look at what urban area number 2,017 has to offer.
